Summary:Zero-age basalts from the Mid-Atlantic ridge from the Azores triple junction to 22°N provide evidence for large-scale heterogeneity of the upper mantle. The basalts are flat to light RE (or equivalent) enriched northwards from the Hayes transform; and light RE (or equivalent) depleted to the south. [F.B.A.]
