Summary:The precisely determinable relationships between composition, mineralogy, and compressive strength of Portland cements made from chemically pure CaCO3, SiO2, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 are compared with those of technical cements in which various impurities are present. Only if the content of these secondary elements can be kept approximately constant, is it possible for the relationships to be established for industrial cements. [A.C.B.]
