Summary:Paakkonenite occurs with native antimony, lollingite and stibnite, in the Sb ores of the the Kalliosalo deposit, in the Seinajoki region. It forms irregular grains and platelets up to 0.4 mm and is dark grey with a metallic lustre; in reflected light pale, grey with a very slight brownish tint; strongly anisotropic; reflectance 36.7-46.3% at 580 mm (dispersion curves given); average hardness 77 kg/mm2. Indexed X-ray powder data are tabulated; strongest lines 2.87(10), 2.68(6), 3.90(4), 3.13(4), 2.27(3), 1.750(3) A; a 5.372, b 3.975, c 11.41 A, beta 89.71°; D(calc.) 5.21 g/cm3; Z = 2. The average of five microprobe analyses gave Sb 66.9, As 18.6, S 15.5, = 101.0, leading to the idealized formula SbAsS2. Analyses are also given for lollingite, zinkenite, and two new PbAs sulphantimonides associated with paakkonenite and comparisons are made with the synthetic compounds.
