Summary:The chemistry of two generations of muscovite in the fold hinges of style 2 folds from the Pelona schist of the Vincent thrust in the San Gabriel Mountains of southern California was analysed by microprobe. The similarity in analyses is used to suggest that the style 1 isoclinal folds and the style 2 open folds in the schist are the product of the same progressive deformation under increasing P and T.
