Summary:The crystal structure of the new mineral prosperite has been solved by direct methods and refined to R = 3.4%. The structure found is in the space group C2/c, with a 19.238(2), b 7.731(1), c 9.765(1) A, beta 104.47(1)o; Z = 4. Ca has the coordination number 9 and Zn is in two crystallographically distinct positions, each with coordination number 5. The cation coordination polyhedra build up a rather complicated framework with shared faces, edges or vertices. This framework is supported by AsO4 tetrahedra and H bonds. [A.P.]
