Summary:Stibnite, berthierite, zinckenite, fuloppite, jamesonite, semseyite, native antimony, arsenopyrite, sphalerite, bindheimite, senarmonite, stibiconite and native sulphur are described from a hitherto unrecorded vein at Wet Swine Gill, a tributary of the River Caldew, northern Lake District. Electron microprobe analyses are given for stibnite, berthierite, zinckenite, jamesonite, semseyite and arsenopyrite. The Pb-sulphantimonides fuloppite and semseyite were identified by XRD; this might be the first record of fuloppite in the British Isles. Bindheimite and stibiconite, also identified by XRD, are the principal secondary metalliferous minerals. Fluid inclusions in quartz gangue associated with arsenopyrite are simple two-phase liquid/vapour types. The homogenization temperatures range from 166° to 287°C and three minor populations suggest more than one period of trapping. The salinity of inclusion fluids fall between 7 and 11 wt.% equiv. NaCl, and the eutectic temperatures between -31° and -38°C suggesting that MgCl2 is present with NaCl. These fluids differ from the main mineralization at Carrock Fell mine in showing no CO2 enrichment and from the late-stage fluids there in being CaCl2-deficient. [R.K.H.]
