Summary:Experimental data at 1 atm. and log fO2 values in the range -5 to -10 suggest that the parental magma to the Bushveld complex must have had an fO2 above that of the QFM buffer to cause the precipitation of chrome spinel early in the crystallization history of the layered sequence.
