Summary:The southern closure of the Scottish Tay nappe consists of three major folds: the Aberfoyle anticline, Ben Ledi antiform and Benvane synform. The previously unrecognized Benvane synform, the structurally lowest major fold, is responsible for the regional inversion of the flat belt. The relative age of these folds is shown by cleavage-bedding relationships and younging reversals. [R.A.H.]
