Summary:It is proposed that fresh-water diagenesis of Zechstein ooid grainstones has resulted, under specific conditions, in a fabric of high intergranular porosity. This is contrasted with the non- porous end-product of other diagenetic processes. Core samples from the Wycislowo-IG 1 well are used to illustrate the stratigraphy of the Main dolomite series and to investigate the porosity and microstructure of the sedimentary material. The depositional environment of the lithofacies is interpreted and the implications of the different diagenetic processes on the provision of suitable reservoir conditions is discussed. [J.M.H.]
