Summary:A fining- and maturing-upwards fluvial sequence of Devonian to Visean age forms the reservoir section of the Buchan oilfield, approx 150 km NE of Aberdeen. The upward change in facies and sedimentation style is interpreted as being due to the combined influences of three processes: 1) a rise in sea-level that raised river base levels; 2) a change in climate and 3) a decrease in the sediment supply from the source area, which was possibly a granitic intrusion to the WNW of the area.
