Summary:A continuous programme of drilling has been conducted since the mid 1950's, resulting in a vast data base, constantly expanding and becoming increasingly difficult to handle. A computerized reserve evaluation system was considered essential to enable a quick response and a detailed and continual update of the Company's reserves. Because of the increasing requirement for sophisticated open-pit mine planning, a multi-disciplinary team was formed to handle all aspects of open pit mine planning; including geology, reserves, mining engineering, slope stability, design draughting and economics.
