Summary:First data on Nd and Sr isotopic composition in boninites from the northern Tonga arc basement indicate that their source area in the mantle was different from that for MORB, but similar to the oceanic alkali basalt sources. The more radiogenic Sr isotope composition of the Mariana sample suggests a magma and sea-water interaction, but not at a deep level in the mantle. (Authors' abstract) [C.N.]
