Summary:Chemical analyses and petrographic details are given for metagabbros and leucocratic orthogneiss from the late Palaeozoic rocks of the NW Italian Ambin massif. The metagabbros contain relict magmatic textures and may represent original cumulates of an andesitic magma. An intrusive or subvolcanic origin is also suggested for the leucocratic orthogneisses, which may have been derived from leucogranites younger than the gabbros. Both rock types suffered extensive textural reworking during the Alpine metamorphism. [R.A.H.]
