Summary:The exo- and endoskarns of the Predazzo and Monti Monzoni area, representative of variable and complex paragenetic associations (fassaite, vesuvianite, garnet, mica, epidote, as well as calcite) are often characterized by the presence of a 'green mica'. Chemical, geochemical, optical, XRD, thermal and IR analyses carried out on 3 samples of Ca-mica and 5 samples of phlogopite have identified the Ca-mica as clintonite with a tetrahedral composition close to Si2.5Al5.5, with large amounts of Mg and Alvi and a striking tendency towards a disordered structure, especially in the tetrahedral layers. Phlogopites were found to be rich in Mg, with a high Al content (both Aliv and Alvi); they are definitely trioctahedral and considerably hydrated. The minor and trace elements found are of interest because of enrichments in phlogopite (Ba, Rb, Zn) and clintonite (Sr, V, Ni, Zr). [J.M.H.]
