Summary:Processes involved in nickel laterite formation are briefly reviewed and several nickel laterites of different maturities are compared to establish a general pattern for the geochemical changes which occur during their evolution. Using four profiles representing different stages of profile development with time, the author presents the progressive evolution of distribution patterns Mg, Si, Ca, Na, K, Ti, V, Al, Fe, Cr, Ni, Co, Mn, Zn, Cu and Sc.
