Summary:The gem and mineral collection of this museum contains about 35 000 specimens. Although relatively small, the collection is probably the finest in the western part of the US. The first mineral hall was installed in 1952; in 1978 the museum opened the E. Hadley Stuart Jr, Hall of Gems and Minerals. In addition to historical observations, special exhibits and outstanding minerals are discussed. [R.S.M.]
