Summary:Uncertainties in experimental calibrations of geothermometers and in the effects of minor substituents lead the authors to suggest that Ferry's temperatures are approx 40°C too low in the garnet zone. If this were so, the fluid/rock ratio would be lowered by an order of magnitude to approx 0.1:1 and for such a ratio the water source could be a thin sequence of underlying metapelitic rocks and/or the granitic intrusives which accompanied the Acadian orogeny.
