Summary:The Outer Hebrides fault zone is a major structural feature within the Lewisian of the Outer Hebrides. It is well exposed in North and South Uist where it consists of high-strain strands of ultracataclasite, cataclasite and phyllonite in a crush melange. Microstructural studies of the fault rocks indicate that the sequence crush melange-cataclasite-phyllonite is typical of that for c-type mylonite development and reflects increasing retrogression.
