Summary:The kinematics of the two main events in this area along the Idaho-Utah border have been established. The first was a NNE- thrust movement and corresponds with Mesozoic shortening. A well- developed non-coaxial ductile deformation of Cainozoic age is marked by opposing eastward and westward shear criteria. Cainozoic extension is thought to be due to Mesozoic overthickening of the crust. Brittle extension occurs in the upper part of the uplifted domain and is transformed laterally through the ductile shear zones at the Precambrian-Palaeozoic interface. [R.E.S.]
