|Summary:||The first half of this well-illustrated book deals with the mines and mining, and with the mineral collectors and dealers, mostly in the last century. The difficulties of mining the tin, copper and other ores deep underground are documented, with old photographs of the man engine at Dolcoath mine and of bal-maidens at South Wheal Frances. In the second part, the minerals are presented, with fairly brief descriptions accompanying a total of 80 magnificent colour photographs, mostly of selected specimens in the Department of Mineralogy of the British Museum (Natural History) amplified and enriched by the collections of the Geological Museum.
