Summary:During the years 1918-84 approx 120 Finnish scientists were engaged in mineralogical research and thus contributed to knowledge of the mineralogy of Finland. The results of their research were augmented by the work of approx 80 foreign mineralogists who studied minerals from Finland. The mineralogical investigations cover crystallography, geochemistry, mineral genesis and descriptions of minerals of the pre-Quaternary rocks and Quaternary sediments. About 515 mineral species are known to occur in this country. Twenty- three new minerals from Finland, 14 from Africa and one from Sri Lanka have been proposed as new species. Special attention is focused on XRD and electron microprobe measurements during the period. (Author's abstract) [C.N.]
