Summary:The Wood Lake batholith intrudes metavolcanic and meta-arkosic rocks of the Pine Lake and Ourom Lake sequences. The climax of deformation and metamorphism in the area post-dates all of these units but pre-dates 1836 +- 7 m.y. Detrital zircon grains from the Ourom Lake meta-arkose are 1850-1863 m.y. old. The Wood Lake batholith is dated at 1850+1-2 m.y. The synvolcanic arkosic rocks are thus 1850 m.y. old and, together with metavolcanic rocks, represent a younger cycle of volcanism and molasse-type sedimentation than previously recognized. Deformation and metamorphism in the region followed closely at approx 1840 m.y. [T.F.]
