Summary:In order to study the diagenetic evolution of a stratigraphic series the sandstone and pelitic sequences of Ranzano and Antognola were sampled. The parameters used were: 1) degree of illitization of random mixed-layer clay I/S (assessed on the basis of the v/p ratio of the 17 A peak of the glycolated diffraction pattern); and 2) vitrinite reflectance (Ro % in oil). Neither parameter seems to be influenced by retrograde effects resulting from uplift to the surface. A good correlation was found between depth and the increase in illitization and vitrinite reflectance values. [J.M.H.]
