Summary:The deposit consists of several NNW-trending lode zones post-dating regional Caledonian metamorphism, and congruent with a late series of faults. Mineralization occurred in two stages: arsenopyrite + pyrite within the zones and disseminated in adjacent wall-rocks, and a later, localized stibnite episode. The gold occurs mainly within the arsenopyrite, less commonly in pyrite, and occasionally as minute native grains. This is reflected in a positive correlation between As and Au. As in Scotland, the mineralization is hosted by greywackes of andesitic composition, suggesting the possibility that the greywackes themselves are the source of the metals. [R.E.]
