Summary:Mineralization is hosted in Visean carbonates, and three major mineralizing events are recognized: the first resulted in dolomitization and the precipitation of minor pyrrhotite in two NNE-trending fracture zones. The second produced dedolomitization, and precipitation of pyrite, sphalerite and galena as replacements, veins and internal sediments. Fluid inclusion data indicate T of 88-170°C. The third event gave rise to calcite-pyrite breccias at T of 140-175°C. Textures, temperatures and late timing of mineralization relative to host-rock deposition suggest that the Abbeytown mineralization should be classed as a replacement-style, Mississippi Valley-type deposit.
