Summary:The structures of quenched (T-quenched from 1400 degrees C) alkali (K, Na and Li) aluminosilicate melts compositionally on tetrasilicate (M2Si4O9)-tetra-aluminate [M2(MAl)4O9] joins (M = Li, Na and K) have been studied with Raman spectroscopy. In the melts, Al3+ is a network- former charge-balanced with K, Na, and Li, and the bulk melt ratio of non-bridging oxygens per tetrahedrally coordinated cations (BNO/T) is 0.5. [J.A.Z.]
