Summary:Cadomian magmatism in the NE part of the Armorican Massif is reviewed. It represents approx 275 m.y. of plutonic activity broadly related to subduction beneath a continental margin. The early part of the Cadomian orogenic cycle included volcanic-arc plutonic suites and basaltic rocks with associated feeder dykes. The peak of the Cadomian orogeny involved intra- or behind-arc basin inversion with concomitant mid-crustal anatexis and sinistrally transpressive terrain accretion approx 540 m.y. ago. The late evolution began with andesite-rhyolite volcanism, and calc-alkaline plutonism occurred over a period of approx 100 m.y. during the decay of the Cadomian subduction zone system. A wealth of geochemical whole-rock data is summarized diagrammatically. [R.A.H.]
