Summary:The current status of stannite and related Cu-Fe-Zn-Sn sulphides is reviewed, with particular reference to the occurrence of these minerals in SW England. Attention is focused on the problems of characterizing and distinguishing the individual minerals in the group. In this region, the following minerals have been identified: stannite (often Zn-rich), kesterite, ferrokesterite, mawsonite, stannoidite, kuramite; additional unidentified phases also occur. New analyses are reported for kesterite, stannoidite and an unidentified phase all from Cligga, and of kuramite and a Cu analogue of canfieldite from Gunheath. [R.A.H.]
