Summary:These coefficients were measured in situ by ion microprobe on a rhyolite from Monache Mt, California. Partition coefficients are presented for La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Dy, Er, Yb, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Sr, Y and Zr. This technique obviates contamination of the garnets by trace element-rich accessories which may occur in bulk phenocryst/matrix analyses. The partitioning pattern for REE is smooth, rising steeply from the light to the heavy REE, and the absence of kinks or changes in slope seen in previous analyses by bulk methods suggests that these may have included errors due to contamination.
