The 1.88 Ga old Mantyla Complex, central Finland; emplacement and deformation of mafic to felsic plutonic rocks and associated Mo mineralization

Summary:The Mantyla complex is part of the extensive granitic complex of central Finland. Metagabbros, the oldest rocks, occur as narrow strips; quartz diorite varies from being fairly homogeneous to being a migmatitic rock with abundant xenoliths of supracrustal rocks; porphyritic monzodiorite contains two small bodies of pegmatitic gabbro; five small bodies of orthopyroxene granites contain molybdenite in garnet orthoclasite pockets and quartz veins. The most felsic rock types are biotite granite and monzogranite, the predominant rock type of the complex. Following emplacement of the metagabbros, the quartz diorite and monzodiorite were emplaced fairly contemporaneously, and were followed by the orthopyroxene granites, monzogranite and the porphyritic granitic rocks. The petrography of the complex and the surrounding porphyritic granitic rocks indicates a relatively deep source area with dry conditions; only the orthopyroxene granites, the biotite granite and monzogranite are possibly comagmatic.
