Summary:Spessartine-almandine garnets have been found in the Cambro- Ordovician massif of Rocroi (Ardenne allochthon). These garnets developed in manganese-rich layers of the enclosing rocks of the Grande Commune metabasalt dyke. They could record an early Variscan metamorphism (T > 400 degrees C) which occurred during the Ardenne margin development. The metamorphic zones distinguished by Beugnies (1986) in the Rocroi massif give lower T. They record the metamorphic phase that occurred during the Variscan shortening. [M.L.]
