Summary:These fine-grained foliated rocks occurring in narrow belts separating the Icart and Perelle orthogneisses are reaffirmed as being pre-2000 m.y. metasediments which predate the Icart granite gneiss and were subsequently deformed and then metamorphosed under amphibolite-facies conditions. They also predate the Perelle quartz diorite gneiss and contain metamorphic mineral assemblages which are consistent with their having originated as a sequence of ferruginous mudstones, silty mudstones and sandstones.
