JR-3, a LIL-enriched GSJ rock reference sample

Summary:Nineteen elements were measured for a new GSJ rock reference samples, JR-3, by instrumental NAA. The averaged concentrations are Na 3.57 %, Sc 0.458 ppm, Fe 3.32 %, Co 1.13 ppm, Rb 461 ppm, Cs 0.845 ppm, Ba 221 ppm, La 178 ppm, Ce 331 ppm, Nd 107 ppm, Sm 22.5 ppm, Eu 0.463 ppm, Tb 4.15 ppm, Yb 22.0 ppm, Lu 2.88 ppm, Hf 40.5 ppm, Ta 38.9 ppm, Th 112 ppm and U 22.0 ppm. It is found that JR-3 is much more abundant in LIL such as Rb, the REE Hf, Ta, Th and U than any other GSJ rock reference materials. No significant heterogeneity of the sample powder is detected at the 60 mg level. This, JR-3 is especially useful as an analytical standard for those elements. [H.Mi.]
