Summary:Study of the microtextures of this agate can be used to distinguish the Huittinen material from agates originating from other localities. This agate consists of length-fast and zebraic chalcedony, microcrystalline and mega quartz, and shows microbanding, fibrous structure and botryoidal texture. The occurrence suggests geyser or hot spring-like groundwater or sea- water behaviour in the area at the end of the Cambrian. As yet there is no conclusive answer to the problem of marine or continental meteorite impact. [R.E.S.]
