Summary:Magmatic zircons from the Enagh Tuff, a sub-plinian air-fall tuff within fluviatile Old Red Sandstone, give a Pb/Pb isotope age of 349 ± 0.7 m.y., confirming Middle Devonian sedimentation and allowing early Devonian basin initiation. Associated second-cycle gravels suggest a pre-385 m.y. minimum age for the Caherbia group of the Dingle basin. [R.A.H.]
