Summary:Diagenetically altered quartz sand was found in borehole HR-Z1 at depths of 1260-1269 m. It was established optically that the carbonate cement was formed during diagenesis. Secondary vivianite Fe3(PO4)2.8H2O was found in the cement. The generation of vivianite in the cement was caused by hexametaphosphate contained in fluid used for technical operations in the borehole in 1979. Vivianite was formed under reducing conditions in a basic environment by HCO-,3 and Fe2+ ions. [J.M.H.]
