Summary:The results are presented of field observations of the relations between dyke swarms and quartz veins, cleavage orientations, tectonics and the style of quartz veins which include lenticular (LQV) and gold-bearing (GQV) types. The available data indicate the possibility of dating the GQV relative to pre-cleavage volcano-tectonic events. The GQV pre-date the Acadian cleavage and associated metamorphism, and probably formed during the extensional regime associated with Ordovician volcanism and with the Rhodell Fawr fracture zone, which was triggered by rising fluid P in the source region.
