Summary:The study of extractable organic matter from sediment of the Kruth-Wildenstein Lake allows identification of natural allochthonous contributions (higher plants) and several contaminations: (i) pollution from road asphalts, revealed by specific biomarkers fingerprints (pentacyclic triterpanes and steranes); this contamination, mainly transported in solid phase (asphalts erosion), explains the variability of the pollution level, which depends on the sample location ; (ii) diffuse pollution constituted by PAH, probably produced by engine exhausts that have contaminated lacustrine sediments, as well as soils, by atmospheric dispersion.
