Summary:Ore-forming fluids in quartz gangue from epigenetic deposits in the Palaeozoic Massif Central were invariably brines with a salinity of 20-26 wt.% eq NaCl. New Br/Cl ratios indicate the expulsion of trapped bitterns or the incongruent dissolution of halite in evaporite horizons leading to gradual depletion of Br as the mineralizing fluids evolved.
