Summary:Mineralizing fluids from the Cu-rich Ecton deposits of the S Pennine orefield were low-T (< 100°C) alkaline brines (18-24 eq. wt.% NaCl); alkali and halogen atomic ratios are similar to those of Pb/Zn deposits elsewhere and modern oilfield brines. The δ 34S data (baryte 21.1 to 24.9, sulphides -15.1 to -7.10/00) are compatible with both the Cheshire Basin and Carboniferous sea-water as a source. [R.A.H.]
