Summary:The host rocks to the Aitik Cu-Au deposit are plutonic and highly altered and deformed volcanic rocks. A comparison with widespread igneous rocks from the area N of the Skellefte district has also shown that the Porphyrite group of volcanic rocks and the Haparanda suite of granitic rocks, both previously interpreted as subduction-related, are chemically similar to the Aitik rocks, showing a calc-alkaline intermediate composition. The Aitik rocks were probably formed in a compressional environment in a volcanic arc setting, corresponding with the period of subduction (1900 m.y.) in the Skellefte district. [R.A.H.]
