Summary:Some 200 conventional U-Pb analyses are reported, mainly on zircon. The results suggest that the supracrustal belt on the SW side of the area, continuing inside the Central Lapland Granite complex, is late Archaean. Besides amphibolites, it contains various types of gneiss associated with 2775 ± 25 m.y. old felsic volcanic rocks. The Proterozoic succession starts with felsic extrusives which give an age of 2438 ± 11 m.y. and seem to be coeval with the layered mafic intrusions which indicate the break-up of the Archaean continent at the beginning of the Proterozoic.
