Mafic magma intraplating; anatexis and hybridization in arc crust, Bindal Batholith, Norway

Summary:The 448 m.y. dioritic Velfjord plutons were emplaced into regional migmatitic metapelite and carbonate at mid-crustal levels (∼ 700 MPa) and exhumed to 400 MPa while the migmatites were still partly molten. Regional stromatic migmatites change to diatexite and diatexite dykes occur near to the plutons, showing that within 1 km, contact migmatization took place. Residual mineralogy (including garnet and sillimanite) in the diatexites shows biotite dehydration melting took place and pod and dyke-like leucosomes of high-K granite were derived by this process. Mafic magmas were locally injected into the aureole and hybridized with the diatexites and high-K leucosome magmas. Later low-K tonalite pods and dykes resulted from local, late stage remelting of water-saturated diatexite. Modelling, Nd and 18O isotopes (listed) indicate that distinctive porphyritic granites clustered at the already solid diorite contacts result from mixing of dioritic and high-K leucosome-like magmas.
