Summary:As much as 10 percent of the ocean-floor surface is occupied by islands, sea-mounts and volcanic rises. That is why it is especially important to classify the igneous rocks here and study their specifics. The aim of our work was to summarize all accessible petrologic and geochemical information on oceanic islands and, from the results, to identify the petrologic and geochemical types of their constituent igneous rocks. The starting data were complete silicate analyses, published in more than 100 articles and monographs. The total sample consisted of 2390 analyses. They were compared with data on other ocean morphostructures - mid-ocean ridges, volcanic rises and basins. The data indicate the specific features of igneous activity on the oceanic islands studied and agree well with the recently proposed petrochemical classification of bed rocks of the ocean floor.
