Summary:This second edition of this Regional Guide (price up to 10.00) is much expanded and well-illustrated with maps, photographs and diagrams. After a chapter on the basement structure and the terrain model, a chapter is devoted to each of the three: the Central Highland (Grampian), Midland Valley and Southern Uplands-Down-Longford terrains. Then after a chapter on late Palaeozoic intrusive rocks (which include the Newry igneous complex), the chapters follow the stratigraphic order from the Devonian to the Quaternary, with a chapter each for the extrusive and the intrusive igneous rocks of the Palaeogene [the Tertiary seems to have fallen victim to the virus of geopolitical correctness], with five final chapters covering geophysics, hydrogeology, minerals (gold in the Sperrin Mts), oil and gas, and geohazards.
