Summary:Turquoise found in veins and clefts in iron ore deposits of the Maanshan area in SE Anhui province varies from sky-blue to bluish green usually in massive or botryoidal aggregates. Chemical analyses show it to belong to the turquoise-chalcosiderite series, with some substitution of Al by Fe3+, IR spectra are presented. It has H. 3-31/2 (perhaps due to its small grain size). The normalized REE patterns show a small negative Eu anomaly. [R.A.H.]
