Summary:The Palaeozoic volcanic rocks of the Mount Cinto Massif in N Corsica are reviewed. Products of two volcanic cyles are recognized. These include mainly pyroclastic rocks with a few lavas and dykes. The composition of these volcanic rocks is mostly acidic and applies to both rhyolites and sporadic andesites. The stratigraphic sequence of both volcanic cyles is reconstructed. Two main petrographical features are outlined: the recent cycles with very Ca-poor rocks and the old cycle with a calc-alkaline trend. The chemostratigraphy of the volcanic sequences is also outlined in an attempt to ascertain the chemical evolution of the volcanism. Comparisons between the different volcanic and plutonic rocks of the crystalline basement are made. Chemical analogies between the more ancient volcanic rocks of the first cycle and the Carboniferous granitic rocks are drawn. The rocks of the second cycle show chemical affinities with the Permian granitic rocks from N Corsica. [J.M.H.]
