Summary:Petrological, geochemical and geochronological studies undertaken in the Ekincik-Buyukkaraagac area, east of the Marmaris region of Turkey, are reported. The study showed that the ultrabasics corresponding with MORB-type rocks were extensively intruded by pre-Cenomanian dolerite dykes. Two younger phases of deformation have been recognized. The palaeotectonic model envisages a passive margin on the southern side of Menderes and an active one on the north where the Izmir - Ankara zone underthrusts the crystalline basement from N to S. Major-element analyses are reported for 42 rocks, together with trace-element determinations in 13 dolerites. [W.S.]
