Summary:The composite-tin-bearing lodes at South Crofty are cut by a series of crosscourse structures in sub-vertical strike-slip faults that displace the tin lodes by up to 110 m. Fluid inclusion studies in quartz from an extensional crosscourse reveal Th in the range of << 100 to 175°C and salinities in the range << 1 to 23 eq wt.% NaCl; some inclusions contain a CaCl2 component and may represent basinal brines with CaCl2/NaCl ratios of ∼ 1.2. The basinal brines are believed to have been derived from an adjacent sedimentary basin during strike-slip faulting. [R.A.H.]
